During Dublin Climate Action Week 2026, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council (dlr) joined forces with Naomh Ólaf GAA Club to host a Community Energy & EV Information Event, demonstrating practical, local solutions to climate action.

Hosted at the Club’s premises in Sandyford from 9.30am-12.30am on Saturday 16th May, the event showcased the Club’s impressive 83 kWp rooftop solar PV system paired with a 108.5 kWh battery storage installation which was made possible using funding awarded under the Community Climate Action Programme in 2025.

"This event demonstrates dlr’s support for our local communities to drive climate action from the grassroots," said Cllr Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. "By providing practical information and demonstrating real examples like Naomh Ólaf GAA Club’s climate initiatives we are empowering households, community groups, and sports clubs to take meaningful steps to enable them to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and operational costs."

Throughout the morning, residents and community members received free, impartial advice on home energy upgrades and cost-saving measures from Codema – Dublin’s Energy Agency and the dlr Energy and Climate Action Team. Reflecting the event's focus on sustainable transport, Ford supplied an EV vehicle to allow attendees to explore their latest electric vehicle (EV) technology.

"Experience proves that collaboration and community engagement are essential to deliver decarbonisation projects and I would like to acknowledge Naomh Ólaf’s contribution to the success of this event by promoting it to the 2,700 members they serve primarily from Churchtown, Stillorgan, Sandyford and Dundrum." said Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. "By supporting initiatives that increase awareness, encourage behavioural change, and promote renewable technologies, we are fostering a resilient, low-carbon future for our county."
