dlr Local Voices Short Story Writing Competition

Thanks to all who entered our dlr Local Voices Short Story Writing Competition organised by dlr Libraries and we are delighted to announce the winning and highly recommended entries below. Thanks to our judges Leo Cullen, Sadhbh Devlin and Sara Keating and thanks to ALL who took part and shared their dlr stories, memories and musings with us.

As Sara Keating remarked ‘Despite their social isolation, the young writers of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown did not find themselves stuck for inspiration during the last few months. Many of them looked to the world around them for the stories they sent – inventing innovative cures for coronavirus, including temperature-reading dragons, fairies with magic potions, and fairies that had no magic spell to give, only sound advice: use soap and take care to keep social distance. Other stories re-imagined the local landscape, with lighthouses that were portals into other times, haunted landmarks, and enchanted trees at People’s Park’.

To quote judge Leo Cullen ‘Well done to each and every contributor’!

Keep writing and comhghairdeas mór daoibh go léir!

This project was generously funded by Creative Ireland.
