Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council and dlr Sports Partnership hosted a special celebration event this week to recognise local athletes ahead of the Special Olympics Ireland Games 2026, taking place later this summer.

The event provided an opportunity to meet the athletes and acknowledge the dedication, commitment and hard work that has brought them to this important milestone. It also highlighted the vital role that families, coaches and volunteers play in supporting athletes on their sporting journeys.

The Council wishes all participating athletes the very best of luck as they prepare to represent their communities at the Games. Every achievement along the way is a testament to their determination and perseverance.

Athletes were encouraged to enjoy every aspect of the experience, to celebrate each success, and to know that they carry with them the encouragement and support of their community in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown.

Barry Ward T.D., attended the event on behalf of Cllr Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council and extended his best wishes to all athletes ahead of the Games.

Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council is proud to support and celebrate the achievements of Special Olympics athletes across the county and wishes them every success at the Games in 2026.
