Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, is proud to announce the launch of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Walking Trail. This immersive experience allows visitors to delve into the captivating history and heritage of one of Ireland's most iconic harbours.

With stories highlighting courage, craftsmanship, commemoration, and the Crimean war, the trail provides a deeper understanding of the Harbour and its significance to the area. The trail consists of 10 key points of interest along the coast and the iconic East Pier & also captures some of the best views of Dublin Bay. The new trail also complements the newly launched Dublin Coastal Trail.

Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said:

“Approximately one million people walk & visit the east pier of Dún Laoghaire annually. This new trail seeks to enhance the experience of visitors by bringing to life the stories of how the pier was built and why it is so historically significant.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said:

“Dún Laoghaire is an attractive and accessible tourism destination, steeped in culture, maritime heritage, and a breath-taking coast. This project seeks to bring the town’s unique history and heritage to life to enhance the visitor experience. We are delighted to have collaborated with Fáilte Ireland in the development of this project as part of the Destination Towns Programme.”

The Dún Laoghaire Harbour Walking Trail has been made possible with the support of Fáilte Ireland's Destination Towns Programme, which aims to encourage visitors to discover Dublin and spend more time in its towns and villages.

Fáilte Ireland’s Helen Cole said:

“The project brings the town’s unique history and heritage to life in new innovative ways and greatly compliments the Dublin Coastal Trail which encourages visitors to explore the wealth of experiences and activities along Dublin’s scenic coastline. The trail will also help improve visitor flow to the area and will encourage visitors to stay longer, further spreading the economic benefits of tourism to the local businesses in the town.”
