It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Ronnie Delany, Age Friendly Ambassador for the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Age Friendly Programme and sporting legend, who has passed away aged 91.

Ronnie Delany, Ireland’s 1500m Olympic gold medallist from the 1956 Melbourne summer games and long term Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown resident, served as the Age Friendly Ambassador for the County since 2022. His vast experience, inspiring sporting achievements, professional and volunteering career as well as his passion and integrity are some of the qualities that will be greatly missed. Ronnie was a passionate advocate for older people and an inspiration to generations of older people throughout the county.

Ronnie has been a great champion for our Age Friendly programme and our vision for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown as an Age Friendly County.

We would like to offer our condolences to Ronnie Delany’s family, friends and many admirers at this sad time.

Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam dilis.
