Comhairle na nÓg Meetings with An Cathaoirleach & Councillors
At the May County Council Meeting, two DLR Comhairle na nÓg members were invited into the Council Chamber to present to Councillors. They presented on their work from 2024 in addressing school stress and identified what they have been and will continue to work on in 2025 under their topic of “Youth Spaces & Facilities”. The presentation was well received and was followed by a generous allocation of questions from Councillors.
As a follow up, staff from the Community Department in Partnership with Foroige, invited all Councillors to a Comhairle na nÓg Members meeting in May. This meeting was held to further delve into questions raised at the Council meeting while also allowing for some informal discussions on how Comhairle na nÓg and Councillors could work together. The meeting was attended by Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach and eight councillors including Cllr Carrie Smyth, Cllr John Hurley, Cllr Justin Moylan, Cllr Lettie McCarthy, Cllr Oisin O’Connor, Cllr Thomas Joseph, Cllr Tom Kivlehan, and Cllr Martha Fanning) Comhairle na nÓg members were blown away by the support given to them by Councillors during the meeting and will endeavour to make such meetings a regular occurrence going forward.
