Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce the launch of its Tidy Districts Competition for 2024 and has issued a Call to Action for more communities to get involved.   The Tidy Districts competition offers the Council an opportunity to recognise and reward the efforts made by communities, residents’ associations, and tidy towns groups to enhance their local environment and foster a sense of pride and spirit in their communities.

While the competition traditionally focused on anti-litter and anti-graffiti practices, it has evolved to recognise and encourage the contributions of communities in the areas of climate action, biodiversity, community engagement and sustainability.

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, said:

“Whilst it is widely acknowledged that we are facing a global crisis of biodiversity loss and climate change, we know taking action locally is the solution. The many community groups represented in the Tidy Districts competition, demonstrate leadership and innovation in the area of climate action, biodiversity and sustainable living. This effective partnership between the Council and communities shows what can be achieved when we work together towards the common goal of improving our areas to make them a better, more sustainable place to live, work and play.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said:

“The efforts of hard-working volunteers across the county, who make lasting, positive contributions to their communities, are to be commended. We were delighted last year to receive 32 applications from communities across the county and we see the dlr Tidy Districts 2024 competition as a Call to Action for more volunteers and communities to get involved and showcase their efforts to make our towns and villages more vibrant, inclusive, sustainable places for everyone”.
