Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce the awarding of €993,011 to 26 community groups across the county to support projects addressing the impacts of climate change. This significant investment in climate action will empower a wide range of local organisations, including sports clubs, residents’ associations, community centres, community gardens and faith-based groups to deliver meaningful initiatives in areas such as community energy, active travel, the circular economy and biodiversity. Funded projects include energy retrofits, solar panel installations on community buildings and sports facilities, lighting upgrades, materials for community gardens, bike racks, tree planting initiatives, and rainwater harvesting systems.

Cllr Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council commented:

“The Community Climate Action Programme represents a significant investment of €993,011 in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and offers a unique opportunity for local communities to access financial support while taking meaningful climate action in their own areas.

Our community groups are at the forefront of innovative and inclusive climate action across the county. It is inspiring to see so many groups delivering diverse and impactful projects that not only contribute to national climate and energy targets but also bring real benefits to local communities. Their dedication and leadership are to be warmly commended.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council added:

“The climate actions being delivered by these 26 community groups play a vital role in supporting the objectives of the dlr Climate Action Plan 2024–2029 and in moving us towards a climate-resilient and climate-neutral county by 2050. The transition to a low-carbon future requires us to work together, and these projects clearly demonstrate how communities can take practical steps to address climate change. I would like to sincerely thank all participating groups for their commitment and initiative in driving climate action at a local level.”
