Additonal Temporary Cycle Tracks Announced in dlr

General News
Public Notices

As part of the Councils continuing committment to enhance cycling safety in the public realm we will be providing temporary cycle tracks at the following 3 locations for an initial 4 month trial:

  • Carysfort Avenue between Stillorgan Park and Convent Road
  • Cross Avenue between Glenvar Park to Booterstown Avenue
  • Newtownpark Avenue between Guardian Angels Church and Temple Hill

Work on these new cycle tracks is due to commence in mid July, and when complete will provide an additional 2.5km of cycle track in the county. Installation of all cycle tracks will be quick and efficient to minimize disruptions, using cycle track lining and flexible bollards to segregate the cycle tracks.

All cycle tracks will be around 1.5m wide, apart from a slight reduction to 1.3m near Convent Road on the Carysfort Avenue track.

There will be a small reduction in the number of parking spaces available in these areas. On Carysfort Avenue, parking on the west side will be removed and parking on the east side from Convent Road to Avondale Lawn will remain. On Cross Avenue, Pay and Display parking at the Booterstown end of Cross Avenue will be removed and four indented parking bays will remain. On Newtownpark Avenue, no parking will be permitted on the west or east side.

These cycle tracks are being installed on a trial basis with an aim to:

  • Provide segregation for cyclists on school routes
  • Improve the safety and well-being of those cycling to school, work or recreationally in the area
  • Improve the air quality in these areas
  • Reduce noise levels in these areas

Maps of these planned works, and leaflets which were circulated to local residents are available to download on the right-hand side of this page under the ‘Related Documents’ section.
