Today An Cathaoirleach Councillor Una Power and Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin announced funding for world-class water-based facility centres across the Country and that one of the new centres will be located at Killiney Beach.

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Una Power said:

"I am so delighted that Killiney Beach will be included in this initiative. The availability of new modern, accessible changing and showering facilities on the beach will be a game changer for local water sports businesses and beach users.  These new facilities together with the availability of the DART public transport will make Killiney Beach one of the most accessible beach locations in the country."

Each centre will provide hot showers, changing and toilet facilities, secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown and orientation points. They will be fully wheelchair accessible and built using sustainability best practices such as solar heating panels to meet ‘Nearly Zero Energy Building Standards’.

This investment scheme, developed in partnership between Fáilte Ireland and Local Authorities, will support the local economy and the outdoor activity sector by significantly enhancing the overall visitor experience, providing new business opportunities in local communities and allowing for the extension of the tourism season beyond the traditional summer months.

Now that funding has been secured for this project, dlr will advance to Part 8 planning permission, tender and pocure a contractor. It is anticipated that the project will be completed within 12 months.
