Stationless bike-sharing scheme to operate in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council
Bleeperbike has been issued a license to operate a stationless bike-sharing scheme in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. This is following a successful two year pilot by Bleeperbike in the County with high usage observed in areas such as Stillorgan UCD and Blackrock.
Initially it is planned to introduce 75 bikes around the County and this will be increased to 200 over time. Bleeperbike also hope to introduce e-bikes in the coming 12 months.
Stationless bike-sharing schemes work by getting users to download an application on their Smart phone. This allows users to become members of the service, to locate the bikes and to unlock nearby bikes by scanning the QR code on each bike using their smart phone. Once you arrive at your destination, you can park at any designated parking location marked on the in App map. This scheme removes the need to develop and construct expensive and often inconvenient docking stations associated with traditional fixed bike share schemes. Details of the location of a bike for hire can be found on the BleeperBike App.
At the launch of the bike sharing scheme, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Shay Brennan stated, ‘I welcome the issuing of a Bike Share Licence to Bleeperbike and the Council looks forward to developing and expanding the scheme over time. These low cost bike hire schemes will hopefully encourage more people to cycle over short trips, especially those who do not own a bike’.
