dlr Architects Department nominated for Contemporary Architecture Award
We are delighted to announce that Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Architects Department has been nominated in the 2022 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – The Mies van der Rohe Award for their COVID-19 placemaking projects in Blackrock, Glasthule, Dundrum, Dalkey and along the new Coastal Mobility Cycle Route.
The final list of nominated works, completed between October 2018 and April 2021 in 41 countries was announced in Barcelona and Brussels by The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe. The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – The Mies van der Rohe Award recognizes and commends excellence in European architecture and highlights the involvement of the European Union in supporting architecture as an important element that reflects both the diversity of European architectural expression and its role as a unifying element to define a common European culture.
The COVID-19 placemaking projects were recently a joint winner alongside King John’s Castle in Carlingford, Co. Louth in the Public Space Category the 2021 RIAI Awards.
