Speaking at the opening, the Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr Lettie McCarthy said:
We are very fortunate to have received 100% funding for all works from the National Transport Authority. I wish to express our sincere gratitude for this – without funding, this scheme could not have become a reality and we would not be here today to celebrate its opening.”
Also at the opening was Minister Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, who noted that this scheme was just one section of the greater Sandyford Cycle Route. Minister Martin said: “The opening of the Kilgobbin to Drummartin link road section of the Sandyford Cycle Route is really positive news. It will massively improve connectivity between the surrounding areas, and will create healthier, safer, and more sustainable transport options for everyone in the local community. I also welcome the investment in biodiversity with mature shrubs and wildflowers being planted in Blackthorn Park and along the route.”
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council wish to thank our design consultant, Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates, and our civil engineering contractor Clonmel Enterprises Ltd for their services on this scheme.
