Update on Dalkey Quarry

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has not assessed the suitability of Dalkey Quarry for climbing activities and does not manage or maintain the quarry as a climbing amenity. Visitors enter the area at their own risk, and the Council accepts no responsibility for any injury, loss, or damage sustained while in the quarry. Commercial or group activities are not permitted without prior written consent from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Update 01.09.25 dlr staff continue to engage with stakeholders to address the ongoing issues at Dalkey Quarry with a view progressing the matter to a satisfactory resolution
Update 22.8.25 Rock climbing at Dalkey Quarry is currently prohibited. We’re actively engaging with Mountaineering Ireland and other stakeholders to address the issues and work toward a resolution.
Update 14.08.25 Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has prohibited rock climbing activities at Dalkey Quarry. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure pending the completion of a comprehensive safety assessment at the site. The safety of the public remains our highest priority. We will continue to liaise closely with Mountaineering Ireland and will provide updates on our website and socials when they are available.
