Road & Cycle Lane Sweeping

Cleaning of the roads and footpaths within the county is the responsibility of DLR Cleansing Section, with approximately 2,500 tonnes of waste per year collected.

Road Sweeping is carried out in accordance with the schedules set out below, with the aim being to sweep villages daily, main traffic routes fortnightly, and estate roads once per month.

Please note that this frequency of sweeping cannot always be achieved for reasons such as: staff availability, vehicle breakdowns, cars parked blocking areas, leaf fall in Autumn/ Winter Seasons and operational reasons when Traffic Management Plans are required.

Sweeping Schedules 

To find out when your road or estate is due to be swept please, refer to the schedule list and calendars available below. First, select the appropriate PDF/ List titled with the initial of the Street Name that you are querying. This list will give you the week number in the schedule, sweeping will take place of this street in that week. Then check the calendar for the relevant weeks in the year.

Sweeping schedules are temporarily suspended from 28th September 2026 to enable the Sweeping Crews to concentrate on heavy leaf fall areas within the County. 

During the Autumn and Winter months each year, DLR suspend all sweeping schedules and deploy the entire road sweeping operation to focus on leaf collection throughout the county. Areas with higher densities of trees and vegetation are targeted with more frequent sweeping. In particular, areas sensitive to flooding, highly pedestrianised areas, cycle lanes and busy roads are prioritised. In addition, requests for service from the public also are prioritised. The Road Sweeping Schedules will most likely be reinstated in February/March 2027 when the majority of the leaf fall has already occurred.
