Road & Cycle Lane Sweeping
-The dlr Road Sweeping schedules will be temporarily suspended from the 9th of October 2023 to enable the Sweeping Crews to concentrate on heavy leaf fall areas within the County. During the Autumn and Winter months each year, we suspend our sweeping schedule and deploy the entire road sweeping operation with the support of numerous other Cleansing units to focus on leaf collection throughout the county. We target areas with higher densities of trees and vegetation for more frequent sweeping. In particular, areas sensitive to flooding, highly pedestrianised areas, cycle lanes, and busy roads are prioritised. In addition, requests for service from the public also are prioritised. If at any stage a resident would like to request a visit by a road sweeper to manage leaf fall, this can be arranged by contacting info@dlrcoco.ie or phoning 01 205 4700. The Road Sweeping Schedules will most likely be reinstated in late January 2024 when the majority of the leaf fall has already occurred-
Cleaning of the roads and footpaths within the county is the responsibility of DLR Cleansing Section, with approximately 2,500 tonnes of waste per year collected.
Road Sweeping is carried out in accordance with the schedules set out below, with the aim being to sweep villages daily, cycle lanes once per week, main traffic routes fortnightly, and estate roads once per month. Please note that this frequency of sweeping cannot always be achieved for reasons such as: staff cover for absence is unavailable, vehicles breakdowns, parked cars blocking areas, during Autumn leaf fall or for operational reasons such as requirements for traffic management.
