Leaf Mould Cage Progamme

The dlr Leaf Mould Cage Programme supports community groups in managing fallen leaves locally by composting them on-site rather than sending them to landfill. Over time, the leaves break down to create nutrient-rich leaf mould, a valuable soil conditioner that can be used for planting, landscaping and biodiversity projects within the local community.

By turning autumn leaves into a useful resource, the programme helps reduce waste, support biodiversity and promote sustainable environmental practices.

Successful groups will receive:

• An introductory online workshop with Dr. Craig Benton
• An on-site workshop and practical demonstration
• Up to 4 leaf mould cages per group (subject to demand and available funding)
• All required materials, including cages, lids, signage, weed barrier and tools
• Ongoing support and guidance throughout the programme

The programme is open to Tidy Towns groups, Tidy Districts groups, Residents' Associations and other community groups within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Places are limited and applications will be assessed based on eligibility, location suitability and programme capacity.
