babyGROOVE

Anna Newell is a Bray-based theatre director who has been making theatre adventures for people of all ages since 1989. Her work for Early Years audiences has been seen on 6 continents, off-Broadway and in every single Sure Start in Belfast.

She introduced theatre for children with Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties into Ireland, helped start babytheatre in South Africa and created the world’s first BabyDay. Finalist, international Ellen Stewart Award for ‘theatremakers whose work has had a major impact on children/young people’. Received one of the inaugural Tonic Theatre Awards for ‘game-changing women who are transforming theatre and the performing arts’.

This Cruinniú na nÓg 2020 commission will enable Anna to explore how her work for babies can operate within the current restrictions. BabyGROOVE will be a chilled-out 70’s inspired socially distanced happening full of live harmony singing and mesmerising rhythms.

Anna has updates and more information of the project development on www.annanewell.co.uk

This commission is generously funded by Creative Ireland as part of dlr’s Cruinniú na nÓg 2020 and programmed by dlr Arts Office.
