We're hiring a Chief Technician

Join Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and play a key role in delivering technical projects that support the development and improvement of our county. Working across areas such as transportation, infrastructure, planning and public realm projects, you will lead and coordinate technical work programmes, supervise staff and help ensure projects are delivered to a high standard. What is a Chief Technician?

A Chief Technician is a senior technical professional responsible for managing and delivering technical work programmes that support the Council's planning, transportation, infrastructure and development projects. The role involves preparing and overseeing drawings, maps, plans and associated documentation relating to Local Area Plans, County Development Plans, road and traffic schemes and other key projects. Chief Technicians carry out site inspections and surveys, manage and analyse spatial data, support project delivery and ensure compliance with relevant technical standards and legislation. They also supervise and coordinate technical staff, provide technical guidance and leadership, and support the effective operation of departmental systems and services to help deliver high-quality outcomes for the community.

We are looking for someone with:

• Significant technical experience in a technician role, including experience at a senior level.
• Strong leadership, supervisory and people management skills.
• Experience in the creation, management, analysis and visualisation of spatial data.
• Strong IT, presentation and technical software skills, including experience with GIS, BIM, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Excellent organisational, communication and project management skills.
• The ability to work effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
• A strong understanding of local authority services, technical standards and relevant legislation.
• A current Class B driving licence valid for driving in Ireland.
