Local Economic and Community Plan 2016-2021

DLR Local Economic and Community Plan 2016-2021 was launched on 28th April 2016 by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

The creation and implementation of a Local Economic and Community Plan is part of the Council’s commitment to economic and community development within the County, and forms an important part of the Government’s strategy of ‘Putting People First’. It identifies goals, objectives and, most importantly, clear and measurable actions that will underpin economic growth and community improvements over the period 2016-2021.

In developing the Plan, the Council consulted extensively with individuals, businesses and community groups across the County. Public submissions were sought through advertisements in local press, online surveys, and through the Council’s online consultation hub, https://dlrcoco.citizenspace.com/, 2,900 businesses were surveyed and a number of workshops were held with local community groups.

On launching the Plan, An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr Barry Saul, said, ‘It is important that people have a say in shaping the communities in which they live and in how the County should develop in the future. Employment expansion, attracting new investment, increasing tourism, and developing an enterprise-friendly environment within the County are key priorities of the Plan. Similarly, a large number of actions have been identified that will improve access to services and amenities, transportation and infrastructure, and will provide support to families, the marginalised, older citizens, and local communities”.

Director of Economic, Community and Cultural Development, Dearbhla Lawson, said, “We are satisfied that this comprehensive Plan reflects the primary issues of individuals, businesses and communities across the County. It is our priority now to proceed with implementing the actions identified in the Plan, and help realise our ambition to provide a high quality of life and well-being to all who live, work, do business, invest in and visit Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown”.
