Social Media Policy

1. This policy outlines the criteria for users to participate in, and post to, any of the social media sites operated by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (“dlr”).

2. While we welcome content posted by users of any social media sites operated by dlr (“user-generated content”), we reserve the right to remove any user-generated content at any time. Upon notification, we may remove any content including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Obscene or threatening language.
  • Content which is likely to incite violence or hatred towards a person or group of persons on account of their race, religion, gender, marital status, family status, sexual orientation, age, disability or membership of the travelling community. 
  • Personal attacks or insults.
  • Potentially defamatory content.
  • Comments of a party political nature.
  • Any material in violation of intellectual property laws, including copyright.
  • Private, personal information of third parties published without their consent.
  • Information or links unrelated to the content of any social media sites operated by dlr.
  • All types of misinformation.
  • Commercial promotions or spam.

Any user who repeatedly posts content of the type described above may find themselves blocked by dlr, and/or may be the subject of an official complaint by dlr to the social media platform operator.

3. dlr is not responsible for the accuracy and/or source of user-generated content. Opinions expressed by users of these social media sites should not be taken to represent those of dlr.

4. All user-generated content, once posted, becomes the property of dlr. We reserve the right to re-publish such user-generated content for any purpose, in any form and on any media.

5. By viewing a digital image from our collections, you are agreeing to comply with copyright licencing regulations, and undertake that you will not copy, publish, interfere with, modify or distribute the image in any way without the consent of dlr.

6. dlr assumes no responsibility or liability for any injury, loss or damage however incurred as a result of any use or reliance (in whole or part) upon the information and material contained within or downloaded from these social media sites.

7. The presence of an advertisement for products, goods or services on these social media sites is not an endorsement of the authenticity or quality of the products, goods, services or website and dlr will not be held responsible for any claims arising in that respect.

8. dlr social media sites are not monitored 24/7, and we will not always be able to reply individually to all messages or comments received. However, we will endeavour to ensure that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people. It should be noted that dlr social media sites are not official reporting or complaints mechanisms. 9. While you remain bound by this Policy when using any social media sites operated by dlr, we remind you that you also remain bound by the terms and conditions of use of the social media sites themselves.

10. By choosing to view, comment and/or utilise any social media sites operated by dlr, users are deemed to have agreed to this Policy. Dlr reserves the right to revise this Policy at any time.
