Shanganagh Park Phase 1

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are seeking to upgrade Shanganagh Park to support the diverse uses of the space by the community, while also ensuring this important resource continues to serve a growing local population into the future.

Works commenced in August 2025 - for completion in August 2026, and are well underway to deliver the Shanganagh Phase 1 project to upgrade and consolidate the sports facilities in Shanganagh Park.  This project will provide, a full-sized GAA pitch, a shared cricket and baseball space, a 100m sprint track, improved access over the DART line, a calisthenics area, 3V3 basketball,  and agility play, while protecting the existing meadows, and enhancing the biodiversity of the site, with SuDS features.

Works commenced with the installation of drainage infrastructure, and the formation of the pitch, which was sown in October.

Formation works for the sprint track, calisthenics area, 3V3 basketball and pond were undertaken prior to Christmas.

Currently we are focused on installing the fencing to the perimeter of the running track and service connections.  We will shortly be commencing the works to improve the access over the railway bridge.

In order to undertake these works (installation of steps, landing areas, regrading of existing ramped access, installation of agility play items) and improve access over the railway bridge we will have to temporarily close off the path/bridge over the railway track with no alternative access to the public.

We are intending to undertake this closure from 02/03/26 until 20/03/26 and the path will be closed for the duration.  Further to this, the main path (route 1) will also need to be closed for one day only (04/03/26) to facilitate a crane lift of the concrete steps.

DLR would like to apologise for the inconvenience, and will endeavour to undertake the works as efficiently as possible.
