Shanganagh Park Phase 1
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council seeks to upgrade Shanganagh Park to support the diverse uses of the space by the community, while also ensuring this important resource continues to serve a growing local population into the future. Through the development of a Masterplan in 2019, DLRCC aims to integrate and reallocate the spaces within the park in a way that balances the needs of passive and active users, and biodiversity, allowing for better enjoyment and access to the park for all.
Phase 1 of the Masterplan seeks to upgrade and consolidate some sports facilities in the park in response to the high sports participation rates in the county and the huge demand on local clubs to provide facilities for growing memberships. It will also provide additional seating, expanded paths and improve access for all.
Phase 1 is due to deliver a GAA sized pitch, a shared cricket and baseball space, a 100m sprint track, an upgraded pathway over the DART line to improve access and create viewing areas aswell as callisthenics, basketball 3V3 and play. The main bronze age archaeology settlement will be protected insitu as will the majority of the meadow. Following these works, the meadow will increase in size and there will be additional tree and woodland planting.
Works are scheduled to commence in August 2025 - for completion in August 2026.
