M50 Junction 14 Link Road

The scheme is part of the Sandyford Urban Framework Plan. The scheme comprises of the following:

• Provision of a new road link between the existing signalised roundabout at M50 Junction 14 and Blackthorn Road
• A link from the new road above to the existing cul-de-sac at Arena Road
• Replacement of the signalised roundabout at Junction 14 with a signalised junction
• Construction of a new signalised junction on Blackthorn Road
• Improvements to pathways, cycleways, and crossings and improvement of lighting and the local public realm.

Construction update – April 2025:

Blackthorn Road is now reopened to East-West traffic.  Works to divert telecoms services, watermains, and road drainage have been completed successfully.   Footpaths, cyclepaths, public lighting and landsacaping on Blackthorn Road will be completed in the next 3 weeks. 

Any remaining works on Blackthorn Road will be minor and it is not anticipated that this will cause any significant disruption to traffic. 

The contractor will now progress the works on the link road southward, towards Fern Road, in parallel with other works within ESB Network lands.   A Traffic Management Plan will be in place for Fern Road works.

Works at the roundabout at Leopardstown road, Junction 14 will also progress with the aim to carry out any disruptive works during the summer months.
