The Glenamuck District Roads Scheme (GDRS) is included in the County Development Plan 2016-2022 as a six year road objective, and is further detailed in the Kilternan Glenamuck Local Area Plan 2013.
Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) was submitted to An Bórd Pleanála for approval on 15th March 2019. Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) was published on 2nd April 2019. Both went out to public consultation - closing date for submissions was 16th May 2019. A total of 40 submissions were received and an oral hearing was held in the offices of An Bord Pleanála in September 2019. The CPO was approved by An Bord Pleanála in December 2019. Notice of the confirmation of the CPO was advertised in February 2020.
BAM Civil Ltd was appointed as the contractor for the construction of the GDRS on 19th March 2024. The construction phase of the scheme commenced in April 2024 with a proposed programme of two years.
The GDDR opened on the 19th of June 2025.

Glenamuck Park
Part 8 planning approval was received on 14/06/2021 and the report is available to view in the related documents section on this page. The associated earthworks will be carried out as part of the road scheme. Subject to availability of funding and after the road is completed, the Parks Department of dlr will complete the detailed park design including landscaping and planting.
The scheme in general includes the following main provisions:
- Glenamuck District Distributor Road (GDDR) - Primary Link Road - single carriageway from tie-in at Enniskerry Road to the tie-in at the Glenamuck Road East / Golf Lane Roundabout
- Glenamuck Link Distributor Road (GLDR) - Primary Link Road - single carriageway from tie-in at Enniskerry Road to GDDR
- Provision of necessary SUDS attenuation ponds
- Glenamuck Road (Golden Ball junction to Wayside Celtic)
Works on northern side of the new road layout are nearing completion. It is therefore proposed to switch the working zone from the northern side to southern side, with this change scheduled for the middle of next week (w/c 02/02/2026). Please note that the existing Traffic Management arrangement, i.e. one-way traffic system, will remain in place. We kindly ask all road users to follow the traffic management signage, traffic controllers’ instructions and proceed with caution.
- Barnaslingan Lane Closure
Barnaslingan Lane will be permanently closed to through traffic at its intersection with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road (GLDR), while maintaining access for pedestrians and cyclists. As construction of the GLDR progresses, this closure is scheduled to take effect from mid- February (w/c 16/02/2026). Since the Enniskerry Road South tie in is not yet ready and open to traffic, a specific Traffic Management Plan (TMP) will be implemented to accommodate the interim traffic diversion. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained at all times, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Please find attached diversion routes and TMPs to be implemented for both Ballycorous Road and Barnaslingan Lane junctions.
