Shankill Tennis Club Padel Court Installation

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) identified an opportunity to develop the existing tennis facilities in Shankill to provide Padel Courts and Junior Tennis/pickleball courts.  This project aligned with the Corporate Plan, in particular Corporate Goal 4, which states ‘Provide quality community, recreational, sporting and cultural opportunities for all who live, work and visit the County’.  The project was Part 8 approved in 2011 (Ref: PC/03/11).

Since 2011, with an approved part 8 masterplan, this facility has grown to include the upgraded bowling clubhouse in 2013, the construction of the indoor tennis hall in 2016, and in 2025 the provision of new facilities, which included padel courts, junior tennis / pickleball courts, and a hitting wall for practicing skills.   This facility would not have been possible without contributions from the Sports Capital Grant, from Shankill Tennis Club and from Dlr County Council.

The construction phase of the 2025 project was implemented to the following timescale:

(i) Preliminary: 4 months (April 2023 – July 2023)

(ii) Design: 5 months (August 2023- December2023)

(ii) Tender Action, Evaluation & Award: 10 months (January 2024 – October 2024)

(iii) Construction & Establishment: 7 months & 12 months (November 2024 – May 2024)

(iv) Handover/end of defects liability: May 2026

The development of new tennis and padel courts at Shankill Tennis Club will bring great benefits to the local community and will enhance inclusivity.  It provides high quality services to the local community and the wider area, which is currently experiencing significant growth.
