Injured Wildlife

If you find an injured animal, please consult the following web resources, which provides information on what you should do and the veterinary and rehabilitation professionals you can contact.

Irish Wildlife Matters website has a ‘Contacts’ page with a map showing your nearest wildlife rehabilitator and vet that is happy to treat/provide advice regarding an injured wild animal. It also gives basic first aid advice for the general public. If they cannot assist they will advise on others to contact.

Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine can give you a number for your local District Veterinary Office (DVO) who can give you a number for the closest vet to you. (click HERE for the list of DVO’s by County from the DAFM website)

Wildlife Crime

Wildlife Crime Ireland is a website that provides helpful information and some examples of wildlife crimes can be found here ‘What is a wildlife crime

To report any suspected breaches of the Wildlife Act the first point of contact is the National Parks & Wildlife Service.

Bats

Bats are protected under law in Ireland under the Wildlife Act, 1974 and Wildlife Amendment Act, 2000.  It is an offence to disturb, injure or kill them or disturb or destroy their roosts. Information on bats and legislation are provided here by Bat Conservation Ireland

Bats in Your Roof

If you wish to conduct any work or repairs in the roof, you will need to contact the NPWS.

Pine Marten

Pine martens are a rare mammal in Ireland and are protected under National and International legislation. If you are concerned or encounter a Pine Marten in your garden or near the vicinity of your home, you can find more information on the website here.
