Whiterock Beach

Whiterock Beach

Whiterock beach sits at the northern end of the sweeping Killiney Bay. The beach is accessed by a long set of steps leading down from Vico Road and is located between Dalkey and Killiney. At low tide the beach can be accessed from Killiney beach but is separated when the tide comes in. The beach is mostly sandy with exposed rock formations at either end.

Views from the beach stretch along the coast south to Bray Head. The hills of Dalkey and Killiney rise steeply behind. The area gets its name from the rock aplite, which has a sugary white appearance. For the best views, take a short but steep walk up to the summit of Killiney Hill Park where you can see the Obelisk and enjoy 360-degree views of Dublin Bay and Bray head along the south coast.

On calm days the beach attracts sun bathers, walkers and sea swimmers.

Facilities and General Information for your visit:

  • Transport and Accessibility: Whiterock beach is located 1km north from Killiney DART Station. The DART services all stations northward to Dublin city and south towards Bray and Greystones. Check train times at Irish rail website: https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie. Cycling stands are located above the beach area for those travelling by bicycle. The beach is accessed by a long set of steps leading down from Vico Road which makes it an unsuitable location for people with poor mobility. At low tide the beach is accessible from Killiney Beach.
