Archives
The role of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Archives is to collect, maintain, preserve and make available material and online resources pertaining to the history and heritage of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and to encourage greater public and community awareness and understanding of the County’s rich culture and traditions.
DLR Archive Services fulfils the statutory function of the proper management, custody, care, and conservation of local records and local archives and making these publicly accessible, as established in the Local Government Acts of 1994 and 2001.
The archival holdings consist chiefly of Council Minutes and related records of the four Townships that were amalgamated to form Dún Laoghaire Corporation: Blackrock, Dalkey, Killiney and Kingstown/Dún Laoghaire. They are chiefly bound volumes with handwritten entries. The section is also responsible for documents relating to Marlay Park, Cabinteely House, Fernhill, and the former Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company. Only catalogued material is publicly accessible.
DLR Archives also house private collections which document the history of the local area. More information on these is available via Local Studies Archival Collections.
Browsing is not permitted and only one item may be used at a time, so it is important to use the listing provided to identify which volumes are required and to order them in advance. Visits are by appointment only. Readers must read and agree to abide by the Readers’ Rules.
To book an appointment to view the catalogued archival collection please submit a Reader Application form to archives@dlrcoco.ie.
