New and amended planning exemptions

On Monday 27th July 2026 new and amended planning exemptions will come into effect. 

The exemption details along with the conditions and limitations attached to each exemption are available to view below.  

You are advised to check for potential restrictions on  exemptions set out under Article 9 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001, as amended,  which can be viewed here

New exemptions:

NB note Class 1A, sub-division of a dwelling and Class 3A, detached auxiliary dwelling require notification to the Planning Authority at least 14 days before the commencement of works. The notification form for each is also available below.  

• Class 1A Exemption - Sub division of house

• Class 1B Dormer roof extension and 1C Insertion of roof lights exemptions

   

• Class 2A Exemption- Removal of a chimney from a house     

   

• Class 3A Exemption- Detached auxiliary dwelling

• Class 62 Bicycle or bin storage and Class 63 External wall insulation exemptions 

Amended exemptions:

• Class 1 extension  and Class 3 shed type structure  amended  

• Class 2 Heat Pump amended
