Autumn Medley of Age-Friendly Creative Activities – a day of inspiring creative engagement for older people

Autumn Medley of Age-Friendly Creative Activities, taking place on the 29th of September is day of inspiring creative engagement for older people - music & drama performances, dance, entertainment, painting, crafts, dementia-inclusive gallery events, information stands and lots more - giving a taste of the many creative opportunities available for older people in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. 

All are welcome to come to the LexIcon Library, Dún Laoghaire to enjoy this programme of free events from 11am – 2pm with tea / coffee included. With performances to enjoy and art and craft workshops to take part in, the event is sure to creatively inspire you.

An array of representatives including the Dún Laoghaire Men’s Shed, dlr Libraries & Arts Office, Living Well with Dementia, Migrant Women 4 Women programme & IADT will be available with information and advice on services and programmes, and on how to engage in creative activities in the community.

Workshops have a limited number of places and cannot be booked in advance. They are based on a first come first served basis. A registration area will be inside the main door - Level 3, Haigh Terrace.

Programme Times:

11am – 12pm: Performance by RUGS – community Ukulele players.

This musical community group will delight with their upbeat foot stomping tunes. Playing at the main door on level 3, Haigh Terrace.

11am – 12pm: Herbal Soap Making with Horticulturist Aoife Munn

Learn how to make zesty orange soap or relaxing lavender in this interactive workshop. Take home your soap in bespoke recycled packaging.

11am – 12pm: Dance with Olwyn – Jive & Salsa

Join Dance Artist and Choreographer Olwyn Lyons in this fun workshop where you learn simple choreography to fun music.

11am – 2pm: Exploring nature through print - A Dementia friendly print workshop

Join artist Caroline Hyland and the Living Well with Dementia art group for a workshop that explores nature through print. Using a simple printing method Caroline will guide participants in creating their own unique print to take home. The session will be followed by an opportunity for tea and further chat.

12.30pm – 2pm: Autumn Wreath Making with Frida O’Neill

Create a bespoke autumnal wreath in Frida’s floristry workshop with pointers on how to make your wreath truly unique.

12pm – 2pm: John Carpenters Cabaret painting class

Join John for a fun painting workshop. Within this relaxed environment you will create your own work of art to take home.

1pm - 2pm Dance Theatre of Ireland's Senior Performance Ensemble Vintage Youth Ensemble is Dance Theatre of Ireland’s senior performance group. The group will perform in Moran Park situated in front of dlr LexIcon.

1.30pm – 2pm: Raging Hormones Drama Group

Be entertained by this award-winning community drama group from Loughlinstown with their hilarious piece taking place in the realms of a nursing home.
