Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan 2022 – 2028 adopted by Elected Members of the Council

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan 2022 – 2028 has been adopted by the 40 Elected Members of the Council at a special Council meeting held on the 10th of March 2022.

The new Development Plan sets out a vision for the necklace of towns and villages that make up the County and will guide future climate resilient and economically vibrant growth and development over the 6 year period from 2022 through to 2028.

The Plan ensures that there is enough land zoned to accommodate over 20,000 new homes over the lifetime of the Plan. The Plan encompasses growth in the existing built-up area, the new mixed use district of Cherrywood, the strategic employment location of Sandyford and in new residential communities at Old Connaught, Rathmichael, Woodbrook Shanganagh, Killtiernan Glenamuck and Ballyogan.

The vision of the Plan which embraces inclusivity and quality of life is underpinned by strategic County outcomes centred around the ten minute neighbourhood concept which aims to ensure that people can walk, cycle or use public transport to access their day-to-day needs and services such as schools, shops, parks and employment.

The Plan includes a new land use zoning objective “Sustainable Neighbourhood Infrastructure” which seeks to protect, support and encourage facilities and services such as schools, healthcare and community facilities that are considered to be central to sustaining and building healthy neighbourhoods.

The Plan will come into effect in 6 weeks in April 2022.

After a two year process it is a clear Plan which has been strengthened by the public’s input.  This Plan recognises the positive strengths of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, building on its towns and villages and the amenity and biodiversity value of the County, enhancing the environment for existing communities while providing for both residential and business growth.
