Presentation of €coMerit Environmental Certification to Bord Iascaigh Mhara
Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) has been awarded €coMerit Environmental Certification by An Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr. Shay Brennan.
Over the last two years BIM has established a green team, carried out reviews of its lighting, heating, fuel efficiency and waste generation, upgraded car park lighting to LEDs, replaced bottled water dispensers with mains fed water dispensers, and provided staff with reusable coffee cups.
On presenting the €coMerit certificate An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Brennan commented:
It is a great privilege to award this €coMerit Certificate to Bord Iascaigh Mhara, an organisation which has an Environmental Policy committing it to continual environmental improvements and which is well renowned for many years for helping to develop a sustainable Irish Seafood Industry by providing technical expertise, business supports and promoting responsible environmental practice.
BIM became aware of the support offered by the Council to organisations committed to reducing their carbon footprint at an event hosted by dlr Chamber in 2017. It has also signed up to twenty eight specific environmental actions over the next three years to drive change and support its objective of minimising its environmental impact wherever possible thus setting an example to other public sector bodies operating in the county to follow suit"
The €coMerit Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual surveillance of BIM’s commitment to meet the criteria of the €coMerit Programme including preventing waste, conserving water, being energy efficient and mitigating against pollution. The certificate was awarded following approval by a steering committee comprising of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the three Regional Waste Management Offices and environmental consultancy €coMerit Ltd.
