dlr Age Well Expo 'Is sixty the new forty?

The dlr Age Well Expo will also provide an opportunity to connect, engage and hear about topics of interest, particularly around the subjects of participation, health and security thus empowering older persons to participate in society and to overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing. The event takes place from 10am to 4pm and entry is free of charge. It will feature a large and diverse exhibition space, seminars and presentations along with a networking and café area. 

The event will help dispel myths and stereotypes about older persons.  The lives of older people in Ireland are in many ways far better now than they were 100 or 50 years ago. Most people are living longer, healthier lives and can look forward to many years of active older age.  A new study revealed in March 2023 by researchers from the University of Georgia concluded humans are still "far away" from reaching maximum life span and Humans born after 1940 could live to 140, with a 50% chance of reaching the age of 125.

The world’s population is getting older, with many of us living longer and healthier lives and experiencing older age very differently from our grandparent’s generation. By 2036, the over 65s will increase by 250%.  By 2041, the over 80s will increase by 400%. By 2060, one in three Europeans is expected to be over 65. The estimated population of Ireland now includes more than one million people (1.04 million) aged 60 or older.
