A guide to the fully funded environmental workshops and facilitators available to Primary and Secondary Schools in dlr.
Environmental & Sustainability Workshops for Schools
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are excited to support schools in the education of Environmental and Climate awareness through fun, practical and useful workshops and initiatives. Find below a list of the workshops funded by the Council and delivered by expert facilitators. All schools are welcome to apply, but with limited supply, we encourage schools act quick for programs of interest!
The programs accommodate a range of classes and ages from Primary to Secondary as well as a spread of themes to capture your students interests and raise awareness on important themes. Primary Schools
Picker Pals
Introduction:
Picker Pals is a fun, action-based litter-picking programme for primary schools. Each week, a child takes home a Picker Pack and goes on a litter-picking adventure with their family, then shares their experience with the class.
Ages: Junior and senior infants to 2nd class (Primary)
Themes Covered:
- Litter awareness, Community action, Environmental responsibility
Delivery Method:
Hybrid – classroom materials (books, songs, activities) + home-based litter-picking with family
Deadline: Rolling applications (early registration recommended for September start)

Composting & Recycling for Schools
Introduction:
This programme helps schools set up effective waste management systems and teaches students how to compost and recycle properly. It includes video guides and optional in-person support.
Ages: Primary and Secondary schools
Themes Covered:
- Waste segregation, Composting, Recycling, Circular economy
Delivery Method:
Hybrid – Online workshops and teacher training, In person visits and workshops. Voucher for materials on competition. Teacher Certificate two-part video series for staff and student committees; optional facilitator support

Let’s Fix Fashion
Introduction:
A youth-led initiative focused on repairing, reusing, and rethinking fashion. Workshops promote activism and practical skills like mending and upcycling.
Ages: Any school actively participating in

ReLove Fashion
Introduction:
A sustainable fashion competition for secondary schools encouraging students to design outfits using reused materials. Finalists receive workshops from the Rediscovery Centre.
Themes Covered:
- Sustainable fashion, Upcycling, Textile reuse, Climate action
Delivery Method:
National Fashion Competition. School-led design with mentoring + in-person workshops for finalists
Intended Demographic:
Transition Year and Senior Cycle students (Secondary)

Rubbish Film Festival
Introduction:
A creative competition for secondary school students to produce short films on litter, waste, and sustainability. Schools receive guidance and support to help students develop their entries.
Ages: Transition Year students (Secondary)

- Waste prevention, Responsible consumption, Climate awareness, Digital storytelling
Delivery Method:
Hybrid remote/in-person workshops + remote mentoring + school-led film production
