Event Description
Summer of Heritage 2026 will commence on the 13th July and run until the 06th September 2026.
Building of the Church of Saints Alphonsus and Columba started in 1855 ‘among the gorse and boulders of the slope of Killiney Hill’ - barely a year after the railway was extended to Bray. It is built in the French Gothic style and the commanding spire is a landmark over the entire countryside. Gerry Cosgrave will help us explore this important Church including the interior which is considered ‘a gem’.
Then a short walk will bring us to Cill Iníon Léinín, the ancient monastic site from where Killiney gets its name. Local history enthusiast, Brian McBryan will tell the history of the Ancient Church.
