Finders and Keepers Exhibition
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Office of Public Works (OPW) are delighted to present Finders and Keepers, an exhibition of artworks selected from the State Art Collection. The exhibition opens to the public on Friday 20th November.
In March 2015, a group of older people from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County were invited to work with artist/curator Claire Halpin, to select and curate an exhibition from the Collection. The group met weekly to research the Collection and they also had the opportunity to visit the artworks housed in the art store of the OPW in St. Stephen’s Green. “Finders and Keepers is the outcome of this process. An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Barry Saul, said “we are delighted to host such a varied and eclectic mix of artworks from the State Art Collection”.
The OPW is responsible for the management of this Collection which comprises of approximately 16,000 works which are located in over 400 buildings nationwide. The Collection includes both historical and contemporary paintings, original prints, sculpture, fine-art and decorative objects, music and poetry.
In tandem with the exhibition is a unique free Learning Programme which includes a series of hands on workshops, demonstrations, gallery talks and panel discussions.
