We’re Hiring: Healthy Cities & Counties Coordinator
Join Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown as our Healthy Cities & Counties Coordinator and play an active role in shaping and delivering wellbeing initiatives that make a real difference at local level. The Healthy Cities & Counties Programme is an initiative with a focus on life-long wellbeing, preventing illness, creating healthier environments and reducing health inequities. The programme highlights the important role that local authorities play in improving wellbeing outcomes for communities.
What is a Healthy Cities & Counties Coordinator?
As Healthy Cities & Counties Coordinator, you will lead and manage the delivery of the Healthy Ireland Programme within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. In this role, you will:
- Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of the Healthy Cities & Counties / Healthy Ireland Programme
- Coordinate the Healthy Ireland Fund, supporting and monitoring wellbeing projects
- Build strong local, regional, national and European partnerships, including engagement with the WHO European Healthy Cities Network
- Support elected members and senior management through reports, presentations and committee engagement
- Act as the main point of contact and liaison with internal Council sections, community partners and external stakeholders on programme delivery
- Work closely with senior management while contributing to strategic planning and policy development
- Support the local authority’s role in creating healthier, more inclusive communities
We are looking for someone with:
- A third-level degree (NFQ Level 8 or higher) in a relevant field such as community/sports development, youth work, social sciences, public health, social policy, public administration, planning, or related discipline.
- 2 + years’ relevant experience in any of the following:
- Local government, public sector, or similar roles involving strategic planning, project coordination, or community engagement
- Work with disadvantaged communities or target populations to address social exclusion or inequality
- Cross-sectoral coordination or partnership development
- Policy development, research, or evaluation related to the determinants of health
- Operating effectively within political, community and policy-making environments, demonstrating ability to work across boundaries of role, sector and geography
- Project management and delivery, budgeting and performance-monitoring experience.
- Strong leadership, coordination and project management skills
- Experience building and maintaining effective partnerships across multiple sectors and working at both strategic and operational levels
- Strong facilitation and group‑work skills
- A clear understanding of health inequalities and their impact on communities
- Experience in report writing, strategic planning and funding applications
- Excellent communication, IT and administrative skills
- Experience managing budgets, finances and payment processes
- Ability to gather, analyse and use qualitative and quantitative data to inform policy and practice
- Awareness of social media and digital communication platforms
- Understanding of multi‑level governance, or experience working across local, regional, national and/or European contexts
