The Role
The Education Officer (Biosphere) will be responsible for the drafting and implementation of an Education and Outreach Strategy and an Education and Awareness Programme to promote the significance of the Dublin Bay Biosphere.
The role requires a combination of technical understanding and knowledge of the science, legislation, policies and plans that underpin the Biosphere, with an ability to communicate these to a diverse range of audiences.
The Education Officer (Biosphere) will work as part of the Heritage and Biodiversity team based in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The successful candidate will work across all three counties of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County
Council, Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council, including Dublin Bay. They will visit various sites across all three counties in performing their role, this will include meetings, events, projects, activities and engagement with Local Authority staff, communities, schools, various groups and the general public across the Dublin Bay Biosphere area.
The Education Officer (Biosphere) will be able to demonstrate a strong background in education, programme development, communication, and practical experience with diverse groups.
The role also requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structures and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector.
The Education Officer (Biosphere) will enable communities, schools, sports and recreational groups, businesses, local authority staff, councillors, and politicians to:

The Education Officer (Biosphere) will operate in the context of local, national, and international plans, including:
•Biosphere Conservation and Research Strategy
•Biosphere Business Charter
•County Development Plans; Biodiversity Action Plans; Important County level site plans for areas such as Bull Island, Dalkey Island, Howth and others, Climate Action Plans; Heritage Plans
•National Biodiversity Action Plan, which contains several targets in relation to education
•National Heritage Plan, Heritage 2030
•National Climate Action Plan
•National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development, 2014-2020
•United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 2015-2030
•UNESCO’s Global framework on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for 2030
