Graduate Engineer Key Projects
Engineering Projects Overview
The engineering team in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council delivers ambitious projects across diverse areas. These include housing, roads and transportation, active travel, parks and outdoors, harbours, beaches and coastal defence. Here is a selection:
Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone
The emerging town of Cherrywood in Dublin will have a population of 26,000, with 8,800 homes spread over the new town centre and three village centres. The engineering team is responsible for delivering new infrastructure such as roads, bridges, pedestrian and cycle facilities, greenways, drainage, parks, and outdoor facilities.
Active Travel
Our Active Travel team delivers sustainable transport schemes, with a focus on providing enhanced walking and cycling facilities throughout the county. The Sandycove to Booterstown coastal mobility route has been a huge success, with 12,500 weekly users. Other notable projects include Active School Travel and the Living Streets schemes. We are a climate conscious workforce who promote healthy living. Join us as we continue to build a more sustainable, better connected network for everyone to enjoy.
Dún Laoghaire Baths
The scheme included the refurbishment of the baths pavilion and Edwardian gazebo, construction of a new 35 metre jetty and changing shelter, installation of the Roger Casement statue, and a new walkway from Newtownsmith. The former pavilion building now provides studio space for artists, as well as a gallery and a café with a spectacular view of Scotsman’s Bay. The café has a terrace outside which will link across to the People’s Park as well as down to the sea. Watch highlights of the work behind the newly renovated Dún Laoghaire Baths.
Samuel Beckett Civic Campus Phase 2
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has been awarded a €5m grant under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund scheme for Phase 2 of the Samuel Beckett Civic Campus. This phase will include:
- A multi-purpose sports building including sports hall, children's and 25m swimming pools, dance studio, and a gym
- A two-storey library
- A two-storey car park
- A hard landscaped Civic Plaza
Blackglen Road Improvement Scheme
The Blackglen Road Improvement Scheme involves the upgrade of Blackglen Road in Sandyford, Lambs Cross Junction and the Grange Road/Harolds Grange Road Junction. This will provide a safer route for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. This project will see the improvement of approximately 2.02km of road.
Killiney Beach enhancement
Our engineering teams delivered accessibility and public realm enhancements in and around the main entrance to Killiney Beach. The project included a new beachside walkway and public space with picnic benches, seating and accessible access to the beachfront. We made improvements to the footpath, road, car parking, cycle stands, signage, and planting.
Glenamuck District Roads Scheme
The engineering team in the Projects Office is currently working towards the delivery of the Glenamuck District Roads Scheme comprising:
- The Glenamuck District Distributor Road (GDDR); approximately 890 metres of four lane dual carriageway and 660 metres of two-lane single carriageway road which will connect the existing R117 Enniskerry Road with the Glenamuck Road / Golf Lane Roundabout.
- The Glenamuck Link Distributor Road (GLDR); approximately 1800 m of two-lane single carriageway road which will connect the new Glenamuck District Distributor Road with the existing Glenamuck Road, Ballycorus Road, Barnaslingan Lane and Enniskerry Road
- Upgrades to the Glenamuck Road between its interface with the proposed GLDR and the existing ‘Golden Ball’ junction
- Construction / upgrade of eight signalised junction
