Katherine Beach | Assistant Engineer, Road Maintenance

What do you enjoy most about your role?

"Working as an engineer for dlr is really fulfilling, it’s great to be out on site and meet the people who are benefiting from our work. I really enjoy knowing that we are helping improve the road safety and quality for the local community.

Our work in road maintenance is so varied, we maintain the road and footpath network, improve accessibility, and have responsibility for bridges and drainage. This role gives so much experience across project management, financial skills, and on-site knowledge so you’re always learning. I’m constantly out and about and there’s always so much help from people with great experience to guide you."

Luca Mauri | Assistant Engineer, Infrastructure and Climate Change, Active Travel

Luca joined Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in early 2023 and has since worked predominately on the implementation of small-scale projects and maintenance works relating to the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure within the County.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

"The aspect I enjoy the most about my role is that I liaise with professionals who have a technical background different to mine. This gives me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge about certain aspects of civil engineering projects which I otherwise would be unaware of. Moreover, I am able to see directly how the outcome of my work benefits the local community, which I find very rewarding."

Melissa Wolsey | Executive Engineer, Infrastructure and Climate Change, Cleansing, Beaches and Coastal Protection

"In the team we have a large team of outdoor staff covering street cleansing, bins and beach maintenance activities. It’s a very busy team covering a wide range of necessary services.

I am also the Water Safety Development Officer. A large part of this job is managing the summer bathing season and providing lifeguards for our 3 bathing areas, Killiney Beach, Sandycove and Seapoint.

I enjoy contributing to our community. I am undertaking daily service provision and larger maintenance projects to look after and enhance the local area."
