
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in partnership with Dundrum South Dublin Athletics is progressing with phase 2 of the multi-sport campus at St. Thomas Fields at Tibradden Road, Co. Dublin as a satellite amenity to Marlay Park. The phase 2 development includes two new buildings comprising a multi-sport building and a track enclosure building. The multi-sport building will include a foyer, gym, flexible studio/hall space, a gathering area for the clubs, a café, changing rooms, office space and consultation rooms. The track enclosure will include a strength and conditioning room, a 60m sprint track with multiple other athletics facilities including long jump, triple jump and high jump. The buildings will be highly flexible in order to maximise occupancy and facilitate multiple use.
The project aims to support the clubs and local community to encourage an active lifestyle and as a means to improved health and well-being. The facility will be highly inclusive while also supporting improved performance and development from its users.
Works are scheduled to be complete by mid 2026.
The project is supported by the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht and Media.
The key aims and objectives of the phase 2 project are:
- Inclusive - Develop an inclusive facility with multiple sporting uses and flexibility to encourage use by all ages, genders, cultural background, abilities and disabilities and target those that may not be reached by sport only.
- Performance & Development - Develop the facility in order for the clubs to expand in a sustainable manner, encourage sporting/active participation and improve performance and development.
- Health & Well-Being - Develop a holistic, community-based wellness and activity complex to address physical, mental and social well-being.
- Building - Develop a shared lean building that is fit for purpose yet maximises available space to an appropriate scale and form taking account of its location, proposed uses and available budget.
- Operation - Develop the facility with multiple use and flexibility to encourage financial sustainability through the operation and management.
- Partnership - Develop the facility in collaboration with future users in partnership with clubs, schools, community groups and outreach programmes.
The Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) is a government initiative in Ireland aimed at supporting the development of major sporting facilities across the country. Administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, the fund plays a crucial role in enhancing participation in sport and physical activity, promoting equality of access, and supporting high-performance sports.

- Support the development of large venues, stadia, and strategic sports projects.
