Cultural competence training - AkiDwA

Cultural Competence Training - AkiDwA for Refugee Week 2025
Cultural Competence involves training service providers working with people from different cultural and racial backgrounds on how to be able to navigate issues which these cohort of service users may present. It equips you with skills on how to communicate among others and most importantly, it gives you an awareness of yourself as a person, and the sensitivities you need to be aware of to be effective in your work with people who you provide services to. It's a very participatory kind of training and so far, we have trained over 30 organisations in Cultural competence, and they have said how it changed the way they do things, obviously for the better.
The Training covers (among others) areas such as:
- introduction to Cultural Competence
- Why it is important to be culturally competent
- Communication - intercultural and cross cultural
- Developing a cross-cultural perspective
- Biases (conscious and unconscious bias)
- Racial dynamics in cross cultural encounters etc
