The Council’s ethos is to provide good quality, well-designed, energy efficient homes which should result in lower running costs for our tenants and provide a pleasant place to live. The following are some examples of dlr exemplar developments and award-winning homes delivered over the past number of years:

Rochestown House – as part of a wider project, this energy upgrade of existing social housing for the elderly is located in Sallynoggin. The upgrade was to pilot a retrofit project to Passive House EnerPHit Standard and was part of a wider EU EuroPHit Pilot.  Phase 2 of the Rochestown House Development which delivered 34 homes in 2016 won an award for Best Sustainable Project at the RIAI awards in 2017. It was the first and largest social housing scheme in Ireland to be awarded EnerHit certification for refurbishment of existing buildings. This scheme, the final phase of which completed in 2018 with delivery of 14 new homes, has provided a total of 60 high quality new homes for older persons, many of whom downsized from larger properties.

Fitzgerald Park – this development of 50 homes is the most recent completion by the Council. The project has delivered much needed sustainable housing, and provides a high quality environment for new and existing residents

Rosemount Court – a development of 44 new homes at Rosemount Court, Dundrum. This well designed scheme was built on a brown field site previously occupied by multi-story flats and was completed in 2018.

George’s Place – This development in Dún Laoghaire consists of 12 houses and was awarded the Silver Certificate from the Irish Green Building Council. With near Zero Energy Buildings ‘nZEB’ due to become mandatory for all housing stock in the near future, these A1 homes demonstrate how this can be achieved cost effectively, on a tight site through rapid build methods. George’s Place was shortlisted for SEAI Energy Awards.

The Mews – the Mews in Sallynoggin, delivered in December 2017, was recognised as Best Sustainable Project in 2018. This project is A1 Building Energy Rated social housing and is in keeping with dlr’s ethos of providing age-friendly, bright, spacious, comfortable accommodation, with superb indoor air quality.

Council-owned sites – Following the completion of site investigations and feasibility studies on a number of Council-owned sites, there are a number of new developments in the pipeline.   

Sites currently being proposed are Ballyogan Court, Carrickmines (119 homes) and Rockville Drive, Glenamuck (13 homes). At initial design stages are St. Laurence’s Park, Stillorgan (89 homes) and lands at Shanganagh Castle (540 homes). Development of these lands will provide a total of more than 760 new homes.

The Council is also working in partnership with the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, the Housing Agency and Approved Housing Bodies, to deliver new homes and has entered into agreements with three AHBs to construct 208 new homes as follows:

Enniskerry Road – an affordable cost rental pilot scheme is to be implemented here. The development was progressed by dlr, the Housing Agency and two Approved Housing Bodies (RESPOND and Túath) who are working together to deliver a scheme of 155 social and affordable dwellings. This Scheme has been tendered and it is expected that works will commence shortly.

Abbey View House – a scheme of 11 dwellings will be developed by Cluid on a site provided by the Council. This scheme has been tendered and is due to commence shortly.

Loughlinstown Wood – this scheme which is on a site provided by the Council is being developed by two Co-operative Housing Bodies, CHI and Loughlinstown Co-op and will provide 42 new homes. The project has gone out to tender.

Cherrywood – the project of unprecedented scale and the biggest and most ambitious project currently in the State is Cherrywood SDZ. Development on this remarkable new town in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown at the foot of the Dublin Mountains overlooking Dublin Bay started in 2016. It is anticipated that the entire development will be completed in approximately 5-8 years with c. 8,700 homes provided including a minimum of 10% social housing homes. This new town will create approximately 20,000 new jobs not including the jobs already created during construction and development.
