EcoMerit Environmental Certification awarded to Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel has been awarded EcoMerit Environmental Certification by An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Ossian Smyth who commented as follows:

"It is a great privilege to award the EcoMerit Environmental Certification to the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, which has signed up to thirty nine specific environmental actions to be completed by 2019. These include increasing its recycling levels by 20%, reducing the flow rate of taps and showers to conserve water, and monitoring energy use in the pool area to enable an evaluation of options to improve energy efficiency.  The hotel also has an Environmental Policy committing it to continually reduce its carbon footprint".

Ms. Aileen Eglington, DLR Chamber President added:

 “Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber in collaboration with DLR County Council launched the GreenSave project earlier this year to offer SMEs in the county financial support to become environmentally certified. I am thrilled that Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel availed of this opportunity and is now certified as a green hotel enhancing it as a venue for business events, tourists and other guests.”

On receiving the EcoMerit Certification, owner Eithne Fitzpatrick Scott-Lennon said:

“We are delighted to receive this €coMerit Certification, and are looking forward to using the programme to help us meet our environmental sustainability goals. In undertaking our operations, Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel is very committed to minimising our impact on the environment. We will whenever possible, reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimise waste, reuse materials conserve water and become more energy efficient in the course of our business.”

The EcoMerit Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual surveillance of Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement in line with the requirements of the EcoMerit Programme and was awarded following approval by a steering committee comprising Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the three Regional Waste Management Offices, environmental consultancy, Econcertive and the Environmental Protection Agency.
