Staff of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, established a staff charity initiative named “HUG” (Hope U Give), through Workplace Partnership.  The concept is simple; Council staff members and retired members make voluntary contributions into the HUG fund which is then redistributed by way of donations to charitable causes as identified by its members.

This year The Community Café, Eblana Avenue, Dún Laoghaire received a donation of €7,411.56, presented by HUG member Pauline Fallon, for the purchase of tables and chairs in the newly revamped centre which will be run by Crosscare.

John Murphy, Chair of the HUG committee said

From the smallest of gifts a huge change can be made to the lives of others, especially when many of us participate in the giving. This continues to be a fantastic project in which to be involved.  We are all very proud of the fact that 100% of all the money raised by the HUG members is given out in donations”.

In these difficult times, the HUG fund recognises that charities are responding to an increased demand for their services while struggling with reduced funding.

The members of HUG are delighted to play a positive part in supporting the excellent work carried out by volunteers in the interest of those within our community that require some basic provision, be it a hot meal and a place to meet.

Our HUG motto is simple and yet clearly reflects what we do:

“We make a living by what we get, however we make a life by what we give.”
