The Housing Department manages the Council’s housing estates.

 Its functions include

• the construction, refurbishment, allocation, maintenance and sales of dwellings
• rent assessment and collection of house purchase loans and certain grants
• the operation of the Plan for Social Housing
• enforcement of standards of private rented accommodation and the upkeep of rent books
• the Management and Maintenance of Group Housing Schemes and Halting Sites
• the implementation of the Council’s Accommodation Programme for Travelling people.
• Homeless Services
• Housing Welfare

For private home owners the Housing Department administers

• grants for disabled people
• grants for older people
• grants for mobility aids
