The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area is populated by approximately 194,000 people and covers a land area of approximately 12,731 hectares, consisting of 672km of roads. The responsibility of cleaning the roads and footpaths within the county is the responsibility of a 50 strong Cleansing Section, collecting approximately 2,500 tonnes of waste per year.
Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Cleansing Section has reviewed its road sweeping schedule for the cleaning of all the roads within the County, making minor alterations to improve the efficiency of the service. This schedule will allow residents to be aware of the proposed visit by a road sweeper to their particular area. To maximise the effectiveness of this sweeping, the assistance of the residents with the removal of their cars would be appreciated.
It is intended to sweep the majority of main traffic routes on a weekly or fortnightly basis and the majority of residential areas on a monthly basis.
Other services provided by the Cleansing Section include, cleaning gullies, servicing litter bins, manual sweeping in towns, removing illegally dumped material, cleaning laneways, car parks and bottle banks.
Any queries regarding sweeping requests can be made by contacting the Municipal Services Department on 01 205 4817, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Due to the hot weather we have been experiencing in the last couple of months and the request made by Irish Water to conserve essential water supplies, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council took steps to help meet the requirements of this water conservation request.
This included suspending some non-essential and other works involving a high demand on water, which included a reduction in Road Sweeping Services throughout the county by 66%.
This has obviously caused some delay in the delivery of our road sweeping schedule during July.
As of this week 26th July 2018, this road sweeping service has been increased again to about 75% of normal service. It is intended that we will return to full service in the coming weeks.
