Today marks the first day of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2022!
Seachtain na Gaeilge is the largest festival that celebrates the Irish language and culture in Ireland and all over the world.
Seachtain na Gaeilge, which runs from today, the 1st of March until St.Patrick’s Day, the 17th of March allows people to celebrate Ireland’s unique, diverse language and culture and allows people to practise their Gaeilge through different events that are held through the medium of Irish. Seachtain na Gaeilge also functions as an awareness campaign about the Irish language so expect to see and hear some Irish being used in person and online.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and dlr Libraries are striving to ensure that the Irish language is promoted both in its offices and around the county. Keep an eye on our social channels where we will be posting in Irish as much as we can as well as posting a seanfhocal each day during Seachtain na Gaeilge to help people learn the language.
dlr Libraries are hosting many events throughout Seachtain na Gaeilge such as Óga Ióga (Wednesday 2nd March & Thursday 10th March) which will provide Yoga classes to children from different local primary schools through the medium of Irish. DIY Gaeilge (Wednesday 16th March, 7:00PM) promises to be another excellent event which will see the Irish language author and journalist, Úna-Minh Caomhánach give a fascinating talk about the numerous free online resources that can be used to learn the Irish language, so if you’re thinking about learning the language, this would be a great place to start!
For further information about these events click here to visit the dlr Libraries website or take a look at our social media channels.
