Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council is committed to making a wide range of its services as accessible as possible. Innovative functionality on our website helps us to do this. To activate the toolbar, simply click on accessibility on our homepage. This function is also available on dlr libraries and dlr events.
We serve and support a wide range of residents across the county and our council website is the hub of all up to date service and council related information from planning, housing, arts, heritage, parks, recycling and much more. To be able to provide accessible information to everyone online we want to ensure our website is totally inclusive to support all web visitor accessibility and language needs.
According to CSO data from 2016, 13.5% of the population indicated that they had a disability. To support people’s accessibility and language needs, we are delighted to announce the addition of Recite Me to our website. The accessibility and language toolbar (found on our homepage) will provide visitors tools to remove barriers and help people who have a range of needs including those with common conditions like visual impairments, neurodiversity and learning difficulties.
Recite Me assistive technology will help anyone who finds it challenging to read and understand online content. Through a unique set of features including text to speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 text to speech voices and many other features. Please see User Guide here.
Residents who in the past might have had to rely on others, or who had to call our contact centre for information or help will now be able to find information easily online about our services. This innovative software will benefit our citizens who currently miss out on online and mobile content. Recite works across all devices, giving everyone the opportunity to use the internet in the way that it is intended.
