Cruinniú na nÓg Commission 2023

We are delighted to announce that dance artist Jess Rowell is the recipient of the Cruinniú na nÓg Commission 2023. Cruinniú na nÓg is the national day celebrating children and young people’s creativity.

This Commission will enable Jess to develop a new immersive dance and music experience. It will be created with and for children and young people with complex needs who attend Carmona School and their siblings.

We are looking forward to seeing this work progress with children from Carmona Schoola and their siblings! The general public will be able to book this experience as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2023 on June 10 in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.

The project partners are Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Children and Young People’s Services Committee, Carmona School and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office. This opportunity is funded by Creative Ireland.

 
Jess Rowell - Biography
Jess is a dance artist, movement facilitator and maker of multisensory dance theatre. Inclusivity is at the heart of her practice and she is committed to making dance accessible by facilitating projects and making work that engages children, young people and artists with intellectual disabilities. As dance artist in residence at Draiocht, Blanchardstown 2020-2022 her work was documented and presented on film, stage and live on RTE national news. Jess is a participating artist in Branar Meitheal 2022-2023 a CPS supported by the Arts Council which is committed to the development, creation & presentation of performing arts for young audiences across Ireland.

Ireland is the first country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people. The inaugural Cruinniú na nÓg took place on 23rd June 2018.

In 2022 to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg dlr Arts Office in partnership with dlr CYPSC awarded the following commission; 

‘Small Wonders’ is a new child-centred multisensory creative experience for and with children from 1-2 years and their caregivers. Artists Niamh Lawlor, George Higgs, Sarah Fitzgibbon and Orla Kelly are collaborating with children from the First Friends Service and supported by dlr CYPSC and Barnardos. Through meetings, creative active research, play sessions, devising, independent and group work, interdisciplinary opportunities that reflect and inspire the children’s poetic curiosity and wonderings through music, puppetry and immersive space will take place. Ending in free creative experiences for the general public on Cruinniú na Óg 2022.
