Community and Volunteer Awards 2019 Winners
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council were delighted to host the dlr Community and Volunteer Awards event tonight (24th October 2019). The Awards bring together community groups and volunteers and provide an opportunity for the Council to recognise and celebrate the wealth of people and projects across our county which all contribute to make this a vibrant place to live.
This year 75 community groups and 54 volunteers were formally acknowledged for the valuable contributions they make to their communities. Awards were made to Community Groups and Volunteers to recognise and celebrate their positive contributions to community life and to our groups across the county who promote a wealth of community development activities including child and youth development, age friendly, social inclusion, arts and culture, health and wellbeing and civic pride.
An Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Cllr Shay Brennan presented the overall prize for 2019 to Shanganagh Park House Creches who provide an excellent standard of child care.

- Age Friendly Winner - Dun Laoghaire Men’s Shed
- Health and Well Being Winner - LBS Men’s Shed
- Environment Winner - Meadowlands Fitzgerald Park Estate Management
- Child and Youth Development Winner - Ballyogan Family Resource Centre
- Community and Civic Pride Winner - Loreto Community Facilities
- Social Inclusion Winner - Kilcross Pins and Needles
Speaking at the event An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Shay Brennan commended all the groups who took part and said:
These awards help to celebrate the excellent work achieved by our volunteers and groups working together, striving to make a difference in their respective communities. It is wonderful to see such amazing work happening around the county. You all bring a wealth of knowledge, skills, commitment and creativity to your communities. You should be highly commended.”
Dearbhla Lawson Director of Community and Cultural Development at dlr thanked the Community Groups, Centre and volunteers, for their ongoing commitment and work, supporting and connecting through local activities and shared interests which is at the heart of what community development is all about, helping to make a positive difference, with a welcome and a place for everyone.
